A North Carolina Wedding | Hugh & Brooke

We love North Carolina weddings and weddings that happen at places that mean a lot to the bride and groom. Brooke and Hugh are both from Roanoke, VA, but had their wedding down in Farmville. Flanagan Field is a grass airport nestled deep in the farm country of North Carolina. Hugh is a pilot and grew up flying around the country with his Grandfather. Most of their journeys started at this tiny family airstrip. It has been a gathering place for the family for years, hosting cookouts and good old-fashioned North Carolina BBQ chow downs. And now, it has hosted a family wedding!

The Couple

Hugh and Brooke were so much fun to spend time with! Their passion for God and each other was on full display the whole wedding day! They made it a priority to make the day not just about themselves, but about loving and caring for the family and friends that came to celebrate their marriage. After just a few seconds of talking with them you immediately feel cared for and valued. It’s such a beautiful thing! I know that as they apply that love and kindness in their married life, God is going to use their marriage to show his love and goodness to others! It was so exciting to witness the union of two beautiful souls 🙂

The Wedding

The day started with Brooke’s hair and make up at the Benjamin May-Lewis House in Farmville, NC. I love old historic places and the May-Lewis house didn’t disappoint! The house is only air conditioned on the lower level; so when we went upstairs to record Brooke reading her letter from Hugh, we experienced proof of the scientific law that heat rises haha! It’s those little adventures that make memories for us as wedding filmmakers! I loved that Hugh and Brooke wanted to read their letters aloud on camera. It’s always such a beautiful memory of what you were thinking and feeling on your wedding day. After makeup, hair and letter reading was finished, we packed up and headed over to the airstrip for the ceremony!

The ceremony was so beautiful as Hugh and Brooke promised to love and care for each other forever. Another evidence of their servant hearts is that they decided to serve communion to all of their family and friends. It was a lovely reminder that marriage is about reflecting the love that Jesus has for us! After the ceremony, everyone headed back over to the May-Lewis Farm for the reception! The food was so tasty! There was a huge tower of bacon bits on their buffet, which of course was my favorite thing!

Hugh and Brooke, thanks so much for trusting us to tell your wedding story! I’m so excited to see what the Lord is going to do through you both as you move forward into a lifetime of marriage 🙂
