I don’t know if you’ve ever seen a live wedding painting, but it’s incredible. The way that the artist is able to start from a blank slate and create a piece of art from your day is amazing. It will be something you cherish for a life time!

Meredith Piper is not only an incredible artist, but a kind and caring person! She truly enjoys building relationships with her clients. Read the Q&A we did with Meredith to learn more about her and her business. Bonus: If you live in Greenville, SC you can meet Meredith and see her work in person at her downtown art studio.

Tell us a little about you and Meredith Piper Art!

I am originally from Louisiana but now call Greenville, South Carolina home with my husband and two dogs. My artwork is comprised of contemporary acrylic and oil paintings, as well as woven textile pieces encased in wood. When I’m not working in my downtown studio along the Reedy River, I can be found painting live at weddings and events.

What made you want to become a live event artist?

I’ve always loved ‘plein air’ painting, going outside and painting the natural landscape around me. I had a class in college completely dedicated to it. Painting live at an event is essentially the same thing, there is just more of an audience.

How would you describe your style of painting?

Most of my paintings lean on the side of impressionistic, with a tiny bit of abstraction within my color palette. My work in usually distinguished with pastel hues and the overemphasizing of understated details.

How long does it take to complete a live event painting?

There are a lot of factors that determine the length of a painting: canvas size, length of the event, and the subject matter being painted. They can range anywhere from 2-8 hours, with majority being about 5 hours.

What are your favorite events/scenes to paint?

Honestly I love walking into a new venue or space, I always welcome a challenge. But a landscape or outdoor scene will win my heart every time!

What is the best part about your job?

I feel very blessed to have a studio in downtown Greenville. Having an open door where community and relationships can be made over a shared passion is pretty special and refreshing. I get to meet and know my customers, the people I am selling my own personal artwork to, the clients I am creating artwork for. This is why I do what I do.

What advice would you offer someone who is unsure of whether or not to hire a live event artist?

Painting live at a special event is such a unique experience. It in unlike any other creative process, every aspect of the painting, from beginning to end, all happens in one sitting where others can watch and enjoy the action unfold. By the end of the event, the finished masterpiece is on display and ready to join or start your original art collection. There is nothing quite like looking back on your live painting years later and reflecting on the memories it holds as well as knowing you saw it being created amongst all the people you love.
