It’s not every day that you find yourself in a old plantation house that once hosted a US President! President Teddy Roosevelt once spent a few days hunting and fishing on the property of Tanglewood Plantation with a US Senator as they discussed potential legislation. Built in the 1750s, the old smokehouse adds to the historic aura of the property! The house and surrounding property were accepted to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1977.
It was well worth the drive down to Tanglewood Plantation located near Florence, SC! The long, straight, flat roads reminded me of my childhood in the flatlands of North Carolina. It really is a beautiful drive, and is very close to Interstate 95.
Tanglewood is a wedding venue that has a distinct low-country feel! Plants and trees frame the driveway that leads into Tanglewood. On the left side of the driveway is an old schoolhouse that the owners renovated.
The beautifully restored two-story house fits perfectly into the surrounding landscape. Huge oak trees surround the house as well as well-manicured bushes and plenty of open grassy areas that would be perfect for ceremony locations. There is even an area across the driveway from the house for your guests to play Bocce.
Inside, you have access to the first story of the house, which includes areas for the bridal party to get ready and well-appointed sitting areas that you can use to escape the heat during your wedding day.
The back porch is the perfect place to set up a reception tent where guests have a great view of the house and the beautiful Tanglewood Plantation landscape. The benches around the fountain also allow guests to step away from your reception for conversations and a break from tearing it up on the dance floor!
