The Gadsden House | Charleston Wedding Venue

The Gadsden House is a gem in the heart of downtown Charleston!

We had the privilege of meeting the owner of The Gadsden House, Kathleen. She was a gracious host and kindly showed us around the property. You could tell how much time, energy and hard work went into making this house the beautiful venue that it is today. And it’s evident the staff carry that same work ethic into planning each wedding.

One of my favorite aspects about The Gadsden House is how clean and modern it is. Each bride is able to start with a blank slate and craft a day that’s unique and personal to them. I’d say it’s rare that you would find two Gadsden weddings that look similar. You have the ability to completely customize the space to fit your style.

It perfectly fuses historic Charleston with a modern vibe. You’re right in the heart of downtown, but would never know it with the privacy the courtyards offer. This venue truly has it all, including a parking deck across the street! If you’ve been to downtown Charleston you know what a hassle parking can be—but here, it’s no sweat.

If you’re looking for a venue in downtown Charleston, add this one to your list! To hear more about the venue check out the Q&A we did below with Kathleen 🙂

Q&A

How did The Gadsden House get started as a wedding venue?

My husband is a commercial real estate investor + developer. I came from an event planning background. Together, we worked on restoring The Gadsden House. The house was originally built in 1798 by Christopher Gadsden who gifted the house to his son as a wedding gift…nice, right?! We purchased the property in 2014 + spent the following year restoring the house in partnership with Luxury Simplified, a local group specializing in historic restoration. We had our first wedding in August 2015 + have been busy ever since.

What is included when a bride books The Gadsden House?

They have use of the entire interior + exterior space which includes use of our 3 courtyards, 2 piazzas, 4 parlor rooms, furnished bridal suite + onsite catering kitchen.

What unique services do you offer your brides?

A goal of mine is to keep things very “boutiquey” despite how much our company is currently growing. I enjoy working directly with ALL our brides in designing their special day, crafting their wedding menu, etc. We have a small team + offer catering, beverage + planning services so we really get to know our clients on a personal level leading up to their wedding.

What makes The Gadsden House unique?

It is a historic home located in the heart of downtown Charleston but it has a modern feel which other historic properties downtown may back. White walls, classic but modern chandeliers, clean landscaping, etc. are perfect for today’s brides looking for a historic property that still feels new.

What is the best piece of advice you can give to a bride searching for a wedding venue?

Take what the venue managers suggest to heart. They see multiple weddings in a weekend + know the same better than anyone. If they say something works well, follow their lead. If they steer you clear of an idea, heed their advice.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love that every day is different, I get to interact with brides + vendors, as well as see all sides of wedding planning.
